Hello again!

Well, I think we decided to use wordpress for our website. It’s easier to add a post, which is great for me (Helen)!

So, a lot has happened since our last post on this site. If you want the details, go to BrettandHelen.gutensite.com.

Right now, Brett is working at First Baptist Church in Seguin where we live. I am staying home with Charlie. We’ve lived here 14 months now and are now on the look out to buy our first house!

Charlie has been walking for a few months now and keeps us entertained!

Co-Pilot Charlie

We saw this helicopter in a field next to Chili’s in Seguin and stopped so Charlie could see it. The pilot said we could let Charlie sit in it… Charlie was a little unsure about the situation.

What are you doing this summer? Why not spend some of your free time sitting by the Well and drinking deeply? We are beginning a summer small group the second week of June called “The Well.”

The Well is a high-commitment summer small group program. Basically, we’re going to get together once a week during the summer to discuss a book we’re reading. The book this year is Francis Chan’s “Forgotten God.”

The cost for the Well is $20. This pays for the book and the workbook. You are more than welcome to order the stuff yourself, but if you order it through me, I’ll cover the shipping.

Everyone is welcome, but as it turns out, this small group isn’t for everyone. There’s two reasons why it may not be for you.

1. It’s high commitment. You must read the chapter each week. You must commit to being present each week. (Obviously there may be once or twice when something comes up. That’s ok.) If you can’t commit to doing the reading and to being there, then it’s not for you.

2. The time may be too late. We are going to meet on Sundays after our Sunday evening program ends. So if our Sunday night church ends at 7, then the Well starts at 7pm. Or if Sunday night church ends at 9 (SNAC), then the Well starts at 9pm. For some of you, this may be too late. And that’s ok. This isn’t for everyone.

We are starting the Sunday after Mission A- June 13.

If you are interested, I need to know ASAP so I can order your books.  In order to officially sign up, bring me $20 and say, “I’d like to drink deeply this summer.”

maybe.

The last time I posted I had been teaching a week. Now, things have settled back down and I have finished my first teaching job. Helen finished student teaching, and substituted for about six weeks afterward. We learned so many things about teaching, and we are enjoying our summer.

Brett at the James P. Boyce Centennial Library at Southern

We've made a huge decision in the last few weeks. Helen interviewed for a position at Hays, and did not get the job. She was unofficially offered a third grade position, but did not really want to teach that grade. We decided that the timing is right, and decided to go to Louisville, Kentucky so that I can continue my seminary education at Southern.

This is a huge step of faith because we do not have a place to stay, Helen still has no job there, and we know just a few people there. We're a bit nervous about making ends meet, but we know that God is in control.

We're still getting the hang of this thing, and in the next few days (weeks, probably) we'll get it looking good. Maybe even add some content.

 Until then.

New Things

I just started my first teaching job last week. I am teaching 7th grade language arts at Miller Junior High in San Marcos. Helen is student teaching at Elm grove elementary in Buda. We are both really busy trying to get into the groove.

the beginning

Helen and I saw Scott and Aurelie use this. We’re just getting started, and we’re not sure when to switch brettandhelen.com to this. we’ll see. until then….
